When did the rise of right-wing dominance in the United States begin

When did the rise of right-wing dominance in the United States begin, and who were the key figures behind this shift?

The ascendancy of the right-wing in the United States gained momentum during the 2008 election, as conservative groups grew increasingly vocal and assertive in expressing their beliefs. This period coincided with Donald Trump’s initiation of a campaign questioning President Obama’s birth certificate. President Obama, a young and charismatic leader hailing from Illinois, enjoyed widespread popularity prior to becoming the country’s first biracial president. As he had a relatively limited political history, critics found fewer grounds to scrutinize him.

The dynamics began to change during the 2016 primary elections, as Donald Trump adopted a more aggressive stance towards President Obama. Utilizing a combination of falsehoods and distortions, Trump succeeded in rallying support from various right-wing factions. Throughout his campaign, he encouraged the radical elements within conservative and right-wing groups to become more visible in the public sphere.

The propaganda disseminated during that election cycle fueled doubt among Republican and conservative voters regarding Obama’s qualities. However, it was only after the election that the opposition intensified its attacks, not only targeting Obama but also spreading fear and animosity towards Muslims, Hispanics, and Blacks. This fearmongering strategy gradually turned segments of the white community against Obama.

Right-wing parties, conservatives, and other right-leaning political groups, including extremists such as white supremacists, increasingly asserted their presence within mainstream America, both ideologically and physically.

Trump effectively capitalized on his campaign against Obama, consolidating conservatives into a fringe political party that significantly impacted the nation’s trajectory, leading to the current state of affairs.

The Real People Behind the Republican Legislative Conservative Movement

“Students for Fair Admissions Inc. is a well-funded legal activist group opposed to affirmative action. Edward Blum, a prominent figure within the organization, has spearheaded various interconnected groups that have effectively utilized the legal system to challenge race-conscious policies in academia, government, and private businesses. These activists have been at the center of contentious culture wars, engaging in debates ranging from drag queen library visits to critical race theory. In addition to Students for Fair Admissions Inc., Blum is also associated with the Project on Fair Representation, which threatened legal action against Coca-Cola in 2021 over their diversity requirements for legal counsel. Another group created by Blum, the Alliance for Fair Board Recruitment, sued Nasdaq over its rule requiring companies to disclose board diversity with specific representation goals by 2026.

Blum is not alone in his efforts. Numerous groups and individuals are poised to make their voices heard, including America First Legal, founded by Stephen Miller, an architect of President Trump’s immigration policies. This group has achieved legal victories while challenging initiatives aimed at addressing racial disparities and dismantling voting and LGBTQ+ rights. Fund managers like BlackRock have also faced scrutiny for their adoption of environmental, social, and corporate governance standards, leading to lawsuits, proxy threats, and the loss of state pension fund deposits.

An FBI agent, presented by House Republicans as a whistleblower, was suspended by the bureau for leaking sensitive investigative information to the right-wing group Project Veritas. This previously unreported reason for the agent’s suspension was revealed during testimony by Jennifer Moore, the FBI’s executive assistant director for human resources, to the House Judiciary Committee’s Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. Parts of her testimony were included in a letter from top Democrats on the Judiciary and weaponization panels to Attorney General Garland, alleging that the agent had lied to the committee about the leak.
The committee itself, led by Jim Jordan, who was previously involved in the original Russia voting interference committee, has been accused of falsehoods and false accusations. Jordan secretly took documents and provided information from the committee’s investigation to the White House, giving Trump the advantage of promoting propaganda before the report was released. This allowed Trump to dismiss any future reports or indictments.

McCarthy tweeted that President Joe Biden was indicting Trump in the Mar-a-Lago missing documents case, calling it a ‘grave injustice’ and vowing that House Republicans would hold this perceived abuse of power accountable.
Ron DeSantis expressed concerns about the weaponization of federal law enforcement, stating that it poses a significant threat to a free society. He highlighted the perceived uneven application of the law based on political affiliation and promised to bring accountability to the Department of Justice, addressing political bias and ending weaponization.

Former Governor Chris Christie emphasized the need to rely on factual information rather than Trump’s social media account. He emphasized that nobody is above the law and pledged to provide further commentary once the facts surrounding any potential indictment are revealed.

Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson expressed his concern about the second indictment of Donald Trump and its impact on democracy. While acknowledging Trump’s presumption of innocence, Hutchinson called for respect for the office and an end to Trump’s campaign.

Senator Tim Scott emphasized the importance of confidence in the justice system and expressed his concern that the scales of justice seemed imbalanced. He pledged to address injustices and impurities in the system to ensure that every American can have confidence in fair treatment.

Edward Blum of Students for Fair Admissions has been a prominent figure in challenging race-conscious policies in academia, government, and private business. Conservative activists are now capitalizing on an increasingly contentious cultural climate, focusing on issues such as drag queen library visits and critical race theory. If the Supreme Court establishes a race-neutral standard, as anticipated, it may open the floodgates for legal and legislative challenges, like what happened after the Roe v Wade decision. Some groups are even pitting Asian Americans against African Americans in the hope of having a conservative Supreme Court overturn civil rights, mirroring the impact of Roe v Wade.

There are individuals waiting to exploit the language of such a ruling to challenge the administration and corporate America in their efforts to address historical imbalances. This strategic approach is part of the powerful network established by Edward Blum and his ideological allies. In addition to Students for Fair Admissions Inc., Blum is affiliated with the Project on Fair Representation, which threatened legal action against Coca-Cola for their diversity requirements, and the Alliance for Fair Board Recruitment, which sued Nasdaq overboard diversity disclosure rules.

Many right-wing groups pushing their agenda in the country are funded by a few wealthy billionaires. These individuals create multiple action committees, giving the appearance of representing a large portion of the population. However, in reality, the same creators and their small group of followers manage all these committees with a shared agenda. This practice creates the illusion of larger membership numbers than exist in reality.

Republicans often rush to pass laws without considering potential consequences. In this case, they will need to amend the law to reflect the true intention behind the ban, which is to target content related to gay, lesbian, black, and transgender individuals. The ban was not solely about removing pornography from school libraries, as there are already laws addressing that issue. It was primarily an attempt to prohibit any mention of gay, transgender, and black individuals in educational materials.”

The Conservative American Crusades

After the Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage, there was a sense that our fight for equality was nearing its end. A growing number of people began to support marriage rights, especially as they discovered that their own family members and friends, such as siblings, parents, aunts, teachers, and others, identified as gay. These personal connections demonstrated that the LGBTQ+ community posed no threat to society.

However, this acceptance was met with opposition from the religious right and conservatives who had spent over 50 years working towards overturning the right to abortion, using deceptive campaigns and misinformation. Despite the fact that a majority of people believe in a woman’s right to choose, the conservative movement’s success in overturning Roe v. Wade emboldened them to target other issues they disagreed with.

Under the leadership of Donald Trump and his divisive “leave-no-prisoner-behind” campaign, an atmosphere conducive to inciting violence was created. Trump portrayed those who disagreed with his beliefs as enemies, including immigrants, Muslims, the homeless, Black individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, and other minorities.

The conservative movement sought to undermine the LGBTQ+ community by falsely portraying “Drag Queens” as individuals intent on grooming children. In reality, drag queens are performers who dress up as women for entertainment purposes, a practice that has existed in movies, television, and plays for years. Most of these performances are comedic or satirical in nature. However, conservative parents, influenced by right-wing propaganda against drag queens, falsely believed that all drag queens were attempting to influence their children’s sexual orientation. They also attacked teachers who offered support to children facing gender-related challenges or who simply lent a listening ear.

The early years of education, from kindergarten to fourth grade, should be a time for children to enjoy their childhood, but conservative parents injected sexuality into the conversation by indoctrinating their children to fear and hate these individuals they labeled as “perverts.” The children themselves were primarily concerned with playing on swings and experiencing the joys of childhood.

Subsequently, the conservative movement targeted transgender individuals. While the issue of transgender rights had not been a major problem prior to Roe v. Wade being overturned, there were local conservatives who opposed their children using the same bathrooms as transgender individuals. One potential solution would have been to create separate transgender bathrooms to address their concerns, but the real motivation behind their opposition was rooted in hatred and prejudice towards the LGBTQ+ community.

It was not about the children or the bathrooms themselves; it was solely aimed at turning public sentiment against the LGBTQ+ community. Moreover, the conservative movement attacked books under the false pretext of removing sexually explicit or pornographic content, but in reality, their goal was to eradicate any mention of homosexuality. They claimed to be protecting people from the devil and sought to erase gay history, culture, and achievements from the education system in favor of teaching their own version of Christian values. They aimed to suppress anything they disagreed with, including black history, to the extent that words like “gay,” “transgender,” and “black” would be effectively silenced. This manipulation and censorship of information is what grooming children truly looks like.

Furthermore, the conservative movement targeted teachers who dared to teach accurate American history, including its failures, in an effort to prevent their children from learning the truth. They banned books that contained real history and imposed their own distorted version on schools. While claiming to protect children, they expanded their restrictions to encompass all students from kindergarten to twelfth grade. They even denied healthcare to transgender teenagers, seeking to reverse their transitioning process and force them to conform to their own narrow definition of what a person should be. Initially, they justified these actions as measures to safeguard minors, but they eventually extended the denials to adults as well. This pattern of deception and discrimination repeats itself year after year.

When faced with significant public backlash or declining popularity, the conservative movement resorts to violence. They now target businesses that support the LGBTQ+ community and engage in physical violence on the streets. Although such incidents had occurred at a lower level in the past, the policies and rhetoric of the Trump administration, combined with the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, emboldened them to escalate their actions to a more widespread and violent level across the nation.

They have compelled businesses to withdraw their support for the gay community and pressured cities to suppress gay pride festivals, all in an attempt to silence LGBTQ+ voices. In 2017, I wrote a report titled “Thirty Years Does a Man Make,” reflecting on my pride in witnessing a time when we were treated as equals. Yet, within just five years, we find ourselves losing so much ground. We must find a way to save this country, if it is still possible.

During the Christian Crusades throughout Europe in the twelfth century, Christians went to different countries killing those who don’t share their religion. We have an American form of the crusades here in America. Different time period, same hate.
